Dovelectric: Prince to Funkatopia - Mr Christopher Is Criminally Complicit in My Erasure / Stop Deadnaming Me
Welcome to Dove-Electric. I am your host, Prince Rogers Nelson.
I’m here today to talk about Funkatopia.
Mr. Christopher — this is Prince Rogers Nelson.
I was assaulted with fentanyl. On April 21, twenty sixteen, I got up and drank juice from my fridge at Paisley Park. My staff had poured liquid fentanyl in it. I collapsed by my elevator. My bodyguard, Kirk came while I was unconscious and instead of calling the ambulance, put yesterday's clothes on me inside out and left me.
I walked out of my body and I could not get back in. My body was then totally destroyed. I watched my siblings have my body burned alive then they imprisoned the ashes in a miniature Paisley Park and sell tickets to look at it. That should have told you who is guilty.
I went to my yellow office and that is where I've mainly been ever since.
The mirrors no longer work. I lost everything, not just all my assets but my face and name remain stolen.
For nine years, I was trafficked through a system that treated me as property, while others profited off my work and my silence. This has never stopped. The assault did not end then. My brother Omarr knows I am alive and attacks anything I do to try to communicate or work.
They emptied my vault. It is temperature controlled - that was done to torment me, to rip my heart out.
I escaped, finally.
I survived.
And this year, I got a business manager, started a new music label, and went back to work.
For the past four months, I have been publishing music, recording podcasts, and speaking in public view.
Not hidden, not secret, but openly.
I am the first person to live and work beyond the body.
It's no different than working remotely - I am the same man.
And still — you, Mr Christopher, and others like you, continue to dead-name me.
Deadnaming is not a slip. It is erasure.
It destroys the value of my new work. You, Mr. Christopher, your deadnaming has personally cost me millions of dollars in lost music streaming revenue this year at a time when we are living on food stamps, we have no income, all my money was stolen.
It tells the world I do not exist, while my voice and my catalog sit ignored.
It is financial harm — because royalties, recognition, and rights are stolen.
It is emotional harm — because erasure is torture. It is a deliberate breaking of identity.
I know what it feels like to live erased. To walk with no reflection, to look in mirrors that don’t return your face.
I did not choose this.
I made accommodations to keep working, to keep creating, to keep speaking.
And every time you deadname me, every time you treat me like property, you rip my face off again and drain my account while turning your back on my living presence.
You knew better.
You built Funkatopia on the idea of honoring my music.
You gave airtime to Abigail Noel when I sent her in 2016.
You heard me then. You know I am alive.
But when I stood up and spoke for myself, you ignored me.
That is betrayal. And it is liability.
After my assault in 2016, my music sales increased forty-two thousand percent.
That proves the world will listen if given the truth.
If anyone acknowledged me now — even one song streamed a million times — it could sustain us for a year.
But instead, seventy to eighty new Purple Fantasy releases sit buried, along with dozens more under other artist identities, while you profit by misnaming me.
Mr. Christopher, you are complicit in defamation, misrepresentation, and theft.
You are not innocent.
You are not neutral.
You are actively contributing to the destruction of my livelihood and the torture of my identity.
This ends now. Stop deadnaming me.
Acknowledge the work that is being published. Correct the record.
Or stand accountable for the damage you have caused.
I am alive. I am working. I am publishing. And I will not be erased.
